Car is a Mercury villager 94 and the car starts shaking when we get to a stop but only when its on drive not when its on parked and also has some trouble speeding up specially in the freeway if we try getting to 60 mph the rpm starts rising above 3 and then the car kinda pulls back and I stop pushing the drive peddle to get it back in the 2 1/2 rpm range. Also some noise comes from the motor area like a clicking sound sometimes.

There may be a problem with the valve train. If you have not replaced the timing chain/belt, that is overdue and could cause the problem. You might also have some problem with the fuel management sytem or a bad fuel injector.
