Car was just fine yesterday when parked. Today trans won't engage. It does have the "must depress brake to shift" sign. And I am doing that. The trans just out of the blue suddenly won't go into gear. Maybe something about a shift lock?

sounds like either a torque converter failure or front pump failure. both are internal and require removal of the trans and most likely an overhaul.

the only thing you can do is verify the fluid level.
