When I bought my car the reverse didn't work.but the next day it started back working and it's been fine sense. But sometimes the overdrive light start blinking. Do you have any suggestions on what it could be and what made the reverse go out.

If the overdrive light is flashing that means the vehicle has detected a failure in the transmission probably causing the reverse not to work. It sounds light a electrical issue whether wiring or a component causing it not work or to work intermittently.
Without knowing why the light is flashing it will be very difficult to start diagnosis. You may need to have the vehicle scanned with a scan tool to look for any code stored in the cars computer. This will give info on where to start. The dealer may be the only place with a compatible scan tool.
Check the transmission fluid level per owner manual just as a basic check.
