Check the linkage to the transfer case. If it is working, check actuator on front axle.

The jeep will not go into 4 wheel drive although the lever is in the correct position. Is there a vacuume control on it?

There is a pot down on the backside of the axle on the passenger side. These are prone to going bad. They are vaccum powered. Check to make sure you have vaccum at this location. Curt

Hi, my jeep won't go into 4wd when I shift the transfer case into 4HI. The indicator light on the dash doesn't light up and I don't feel it shift into 4wd.
I recently put a 3 1/2" suspension lift and 33" tires on it, could that have an effect?

Lifts are what I do. Anytime you put a lift on you change where all the linkages move, specially one that is over three in's. What I do is loosen the bolt on the linkage for the transfer case and while in 4H. Then slide the linkage until it goes into four hi on the case. Tighten the bold and then you have to test to make sure it works. You sometimes have to do this a few times to get it all where it belongs. Hope this helps Curt

On the front axle there is a vacuum activated pot and an electrical connection on the passenger side of the axle. Check for a good connection of both, these sometimes come undone. If all tests ok then it will probably be the actuater. Also on a 95 this actuator may be totally wlectric, I get the years mix up. That would be where to start looking. Hope this helps Curt

my 4x4 isnt working and ive checked all the vaccum lines and they are perfect. The 4x4 light goes on and off. The drive shaft comein from the transfer case is engaged but seems like it doesnt have enough to move the front wheels. Is it because the transfer case is low on fluid? If so how do I check the fluid in it?Where is it on the transffer case

Check the seals in the hubs, if they are no good they will suck air and not create sufficient vaccum to lock the hubs.

If all the seals are good what else could be causing this?

Forgot how to tell you how to check the fluid! First on the transfer case you should see two plugs, the upper one is the fill and the fluid should be about that high, the bottom one is the drain.

If the vaccum lines are good, then check to see that the transfer case is engaging and turning the shaft, just not turning hte wheels if so check the inside for sheered off metal shavings.
