I have a 94 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, inline 6, automatic. Recently it began acting strange in first gear. First, when accelerating after a stop, it would rev up and then suddenly kick into gear. Secondly, and this is now more common than the first issue, it revs way up and then slowly starts to move, similar to the feel of trying to start in second in a manual shift vehicle. What's up? I recently had the fluid changed, and checked it a week later to make sure it wasn't leaking. Checked out OK.

If you're not having to "play with" the shifter to get the vehicle to move, no. It's internal. One thing you can try is adjusting the bands, but it doesn't sound like an issue with the bands.
