1994 Jeep Cherokee rear hatch

I have owned this jeep for about two months and never been able to open the hatch. Iv taken the plastic off the inside but cant figure out how it works in there all info.i found on the internet is about a grand cherokee with a handle i have a button. Thankyou in advance for your answer

see pic this is a power door lock but yours will be similar. check to see if rods are clipped where these are then move the rods towards center and door latch should open gate. a lot of times these clips are broken as a lot are plastic

it loaded thats the first diagram iv seen. Thankyou. So xjs have side latches not just a single one in the center of the hatch?

what you see in diagram is push button on gate latch if it's not like this it should be very similar and yours will work same way horizontal arrows point in direction of rods to move to open gate
