If it was clicking replace the whole axle, remanufactured axles are as cheap as a new outer joint, and a boot kit alone will only stave off the inevitable. That said, use a hammer and chisel to cut the old boot starp off. And then a tap on the joint to remove it from the axle. It is recommended to dismantle the joint, clean it, then reassemble the balls in the right places in the casge! Any dirt in the join will leads to a failed CV joint!
