My truck has never given me any problems. Recently as I was out with my family the check engine light came on. I had it looked at and the code was #38 TCC brake switch stuck "off". I'm not exactly sure what it means or how it works or even how it would be fix. Can you please describe it to me. The truck was originally owned by my dad who recently passed from cancer he got from 9/11.

He was a very good mechanic and I'm trying to learn all I can to follow his footsteps. He's my idol and I'm going to be going to school for auto mechanical engineering and also am a volunteer fire fighter. Please help me save his baby. He bought it brand new in '94 and I'm keeping it. I want to restore it to original condition and paint a tribute to him on the tailgate. Hopefully this is a minor fix. Thanks for helping.

It could be a bad brake switch lets start by seeing if your brake lights work when you step on the brakes?

Yes they do. Now if they come on all the time that I can not say. Also I want to add that the light has gone off for a little while and then back on. It is currently off again. I'm trying to narrow down exactly when it comes on.

I still don't have an answer or understand this problem. The light comes on when I'm at highway speeds for a few minutes but when I'm doing local short trips around town it'll stay off. It doesn't matter if I drive it fast and heavy pedal or slow and light pedal type of driving. I'm hoping it's a simple fix!
