It means an error has been detected by the transmission cntrol module and you need to retrieve the trouble code to find out what is causing it.

You can't speculate on what could be the cause. Only by retrieving the trouble code would you be able to understand what is causing it. there are so may possibilities and any one of it could be the cause.
