My car is taking a long time to speed up. I am having to push the gas to the floor just to go 60. This just started today. I thought that it wasn't switching into gear on time. The check engine light is not on and I am not hearing any funny sounds coming from the engine

Since your car is older than a '96 model, the Engine Computer doesn't check for misfires. You have to listen and feel if the engine is running smoothly. If it is not, lack of power is the cause of the problem.

Other things to consider are a sticking brake caliper and a plugged exhaust system. Feel the front wheels after driving for a few miles. If one is real hot, you have a brake problem. Listen to the sound at the tail pipe. If you hear a steady hiss instead of the normal rumble and "putt-putt", the exhaust is restricted. You should feel a really strong air flow.
