Clutch or transmission

My Ford Ranger with the 4.0 and manual 5 speed will not move under it's own power. Transmission seems to shift fine and sounds like it is actually going through the gears. Even with the truck running and clutch out, you can shift at will but it won't grind a gear or go anywhere. Clutch does not seem to have hydraulic pressure but the master cylinder is full. The feeling in the clutch pedal seems to be the return spring only. This problem happened while driving down the road and it felt like it went into neutral. You still have to depress the clutch to start it, because of the saftey switch but once running it doesn't go. Also at a standstill, in gear, you can push it as we did off the road. Drive shaft is still in place. Help!

NOT KNOWING A BUNCH ABOUT POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENTS FROM THE SLAVE TO THE THROW-OUT BEARING ARM

IMMA JEEP CJ KINDA GUY, SO I UNDERSTAND HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS (MINUS ADJ)

ON CJs, MECHANICAL OR HYDRAULIC THE SLAVE ROD CAN BE "OVER ADJUSTED".....AND IT WILL DO EXACTLY WHAT YOURS IS DOING.....A WORN OUT CLUTCH WILL DO THE SAME TOO

YOU ALSO MUST TAKE IN ACCOUNT, ANY H.ELL DAMAGE.......WHERE MAYBE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVING IT H.ELL!!!----OR BEEN "RIDIN' THE CLUTCH PEDAL".....IF SO, THE WORN OUT SCENARIO MAY BE THE DEAL

THIS IS JUST INFO THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HELP YOU UNDERSTAND HOW IT SORTA WORKS....OR COULD BE OVER ADJUSTED

WHAT I MEAN IS...THE DARN ROD CAN BE PUSHING ON THE THROW-OUT BEARING ARM (CLUTCH FORK) SO HARD THAT THE PRESSURE PLATE IS LIFTED OFF OF THE CLUTCH DISC WITH THE PEDAL IN THE FULL UP POSITION (AS IF YOU WERE PUSHING THE PEDAL...AND YOU AIN'T!)

I THINK YOUR SLAVE IS INTERNAL INSIDE THE BELL HOUSING---SO YOU MAY NOT SEE WHAT I MEAN

SO EVEN THOUGH THE PICS I HAVE IS FOR MY '77 CJ5----LOOK AT THE LONG HEX THINGEE (LHT!)--MY PEDAL IS UP--THERE IS LITTLE PLAY IN MY PEDAL---IF I SCREW OUT THE "LHT", IT MAKES THE ROD LONGER---IT PUSHES ON THE THROW-OUT BEARING ARM (CLUTCH FORK) AND WAH-LAH.....THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS PUSHED...BUT THE PEDAL NEVER MOVED!

SEE PARTS "2"..."4"..."3" IN THIS LINK

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-clutch-parts/cj5-cj7-cj8-scrambler/index.htm

AT THE BOTTOM IS MY REAL PICS---SOME "GREASE GOO" ON THE ARM--LAST PIC..THE ARMS SORTA OUTTA THE PIC, BUT YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER END OF THE ARM (CLUTCH FORK) AND THE THROW OUT BEARING....TRANSMISSION IS REMOVED OFF OF BELL HOUSING

IF ALL OF THIS IS POSSIBLE----SIMPLY BACKING OFF ON THE ADJUSTMENT UNTIL THERE IS A LITTLE PLAY BETWEEN THE ROD AND THE CLUTCH FORK---THIS WOULD LET THE PRESSURE PLATE "MASH" ON THE CLUTCH DISK......IS THE FIX

KEEP US INFORMED---YOU CAN TELL ME IF I'M AN IDIOT IF YOURS IS NON-ADJUSTABLE

I WOULD FIRST SE IF THE SLAVE CYLINDER IS BUILDING PRESSURE BY PUMPING IT AND SEE IF IT SQUIRTS FLUID OUT THE BLEADER

ALRIGHTY THEN!

AS YOU MIGHT CAN TELL---I'M LIVING IN THE PAST....WHERE THINGS WERE MUCH SIMPLER

I WORK PART TIME AT ADVANCE AUTO, BEEN THERE A LITTLE OVER A MONTH, I SORTA HOPED I COULD LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS NEW COMPUTERIZED CRAP BY DEALING WITH IT DAY TO DAY.

I CAN BARELY RUN THE REGISTER (LACK OF PERSONAL TRAINING, AND LITTLE TIME USING IT) AND THEY HAVE ME NON-STOP DELIVERING PARTS....OUR STORE IS REALLY BUSY

I DID TAKE THE TIME TO GO PULL YOUR SLAVE CYLINDER/ THROW-OUT BEARING AND GAZED IT OVER

BASICALLY IT IS HOLLOW ACCORDION WITH THE THROW-OUT BEARING ATTACHED TO THE TOP WHICH SLIPS OVER THE SNOUT (CONTAINING THE TRANNY INPUT SHAFT) PUSHING THE PEDAL MAKES THE ACCORDION SHOVE THE THROW-OUT BEARING INTO CLUTCH DIAPHRAGM.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_TECHnovation-Clutch-Slave-Cylinder-Perfection-Clutch_19340232-P_236_R%7CGRP60006_____

STILL, AS IN MY JEEP PICS, THE THROW-OUT BEARING SLIDES ON THE TRANNY SNOUT TO KEEP IT CENTERED UP

YOUR SYMPTOMS (IF I'M CORRECT) IS THE TRUCK IS RUNNING AND WON'T GO---THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS "UP" AND CAN BE IN ANY GEAR---NOTHING HAPPENS

JUST FROM LOOKING EVERYTHING OVER...THIS IS NOW MY CONCLUSIONS

1) MAYBE THE PRESSURE PLATE IS SCREWED UP AND IS NOT PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE CLUTCH DISC

2) THE THROW OUT BEARING IS SOMEHOW "STUCK" ON THE SNOUT (WITH THE PRESSURE PLATE DIAPHRAGM "PUSHED"WILL NOT SLIDE BACK ON THE SNOUT DUE TO "SNOUT DAMAGE" OR THE CENTER OF THE THROW-OUT BEARING IS MACHINED WRONG (TOO SMALL)--TRASH OR OTHER IS WEDGED BETWEEN THE SNOUT AND THROW-OUT BEARINGBASICALLY IT'S PUSHING---AND WON'T BACK OFF!

3) YOU HAVE TRASHED THE DISC---AND IT SLIPS CONSTANTLY

I'M GONNA SEND YOU 2 PICS (1ST IS A REPEAT)---MY THROW-OUT BEARING STAYS IN THE BELL HOUSING---WHEN YOU SHOVE THE TRANNY INTO PLACETHE "SNOUT" OR "SLEEVE" THREADS ITO THE CENTER OF IT----SO WHEN IT'S ALL IN PLACE, THE BEARING IS SLIDING BACK AND FORTH ON A "PIPE" (PER SAY)IMAGINE IF MY "SNOUT" HAD A BIG OLE BURR NEAR THE END. I PUSH THE PEDAL, THE CLUTCH FORK PUSHES THE THROW-OUT BEARING FORWARD AND THE BEARING GETS "STUCK" ON THE SNOUT THE PRESSURE PLATE IS RAISED (AS IF READY TO SHIFT)---BUT IT WON'T SLIDE BACK WHEN THE PEDAL IS RELEASED

WITH THE OLD JEEP SYSTEM---W/ A CLUTCH FORK, MY PEDAL WOULD STAY ON THE FLOOR!

YOURS IS HYDRAULIC---THE PEDAL WOULD RISE BACK ON IT'S OWN---YOU WOULD NEVER THINK IT WAS STUCK---AS I WOULD WITH MY JEEP

2ND PIC IS MY TRANNY, WHEN I REBUILT IT (MYSELF)----LOOK AT THE SNOUT (PIPE) OVER THE SPLINED INPUT SHAFTSORTA LOOK AT BOTH PICS AND HOW THE SNOUT WOULD GO THRU THE THROW-OUT BEARING IN THE 1ST PIC

WHEN THE TRANNY IS INSTALLED, THE TIP OF THE INPUT SHAFT--GOES INTO THE PILOT BUSHING IN THE BACK END OF THE CRANKSHAFT---THE WIDE SPLINES GO INTO THE CENTER OF THE CLUTCH DISC---AND THE OUTER SNOUT/ SLEEVE/ PIPE IS WHAT THE THROWOUT BEARING SLIDES ON

SEE, I'M NOT REALLY STUPID---I JUST HAVE A HARD TIME CONVEYING INFO TO ANOTHER PERSON

KEEP US INFORMED
