Engine Problem

I have a 1994 Ford Probe, my car when it is cold runs smooth and fine, but once it heats up it starts to spuuter off, and unless I am hitting the gas it struggles to breathe. The car if I am on the highway drives well, and because of the flow of oxygen I guess it is not struggling, but when I slow down it starts to choke, unless I shift into neutral and keep the rpms up, what could my problem be?

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Next, check for vacuum leaks, check IAC...
