INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ARE SOMETIMES HARD TO DIAGNOSE

IT "COULD" OR "COULD NOT" BE THE SWITCH ITSELF

I DON'T KNOW YOUR VEHICLE, OTHER THAN GENERICALLY.I'M SORTA STILL LIVING THE 80s ON BACK, W/ JEEP CJs---I KNOW THEM VERY WELL.I'M NOT A FLY BY NIGHT KINDA GUY. SEE PICS OF MY PRESENT 2, MY DAILY TRANSPORTATION.1977 CJ 5 ("MR. JEEP") AND MY 1946 WILLYS ("WILLY") THEY ARE #s "6" AND "7" OF THE."SEVEN JEEP CJs". I'VE OWNED AND/ OR RESTORED. NEVER HAD ANY OTHER KINDA RIG FOR A DAILY DRIVER.I WAS ALLOWED OUT ONTO THE ASPHALT IN 1981.I CAN "TOLERATE" TRUCKS. BUT I HATE CARS!

IT LOOKS LIKE THERE'S MORE THAN 2 WIRES GOING INTO IT---SO IT'S NOT LIKE "OLD STUFF", IT PROBABLY FUNCTIONS MORE THAN JUST A "ON/OFF" LIKE IN OLDER VEHICLES

. BUT!

IF IT WERE MINE, THE MULTIPLE "PUSHING INs". THEN IT WORKS."TO ME", SOUNDS LIKE IT IS "AT/ OR IN" THE SWITCH AREA

MY 1ST STEPS MIGHT BE

1) INSURE IT IS MOUNTED CORRECTLY AND DOES NOT "SCOOCH AROUND" WHEN THE PEDAL IS ACTIVATED

2) TAKE THE CONNECTOR LOOSE AND INSPECT THE "FEMALE AND MALE" ENDS FOR LOOSE-NESS/ MELTAGE/ MELTED AND PUSHED BACK IN THE CONNECTOR

3) INSURE THE CONNECTOR IS FIRMLY IN PLACE.I MIGHT EVEN USE SOME DIELECTRIC GREASE ON THE PINS (SEE MY 1ST PIC)

4) $40 (OR LESS. TAKE HEED!) MIGHT NOT "BREAK ME"----INSTALL A NEW SWITCH!---BUT IT MIGHT ALSO IMMEDIATELY FIX THE ISSUE WITHOUT FURTHER "TIME CONSUMING" TESTING. IT PROBABLY HAS BEEN ON THERE 19 YEARS?

IF YOU WANT TO GO THE LONGER ROUTE---I MAY STILL BE ABLE TO AID YOU

I FEEL SURE THAT THERE IS PROBABLY A RELAY THAT THIS SWITCH ACTIVATESRELAYS ALSO CAN BE INTERMITTENT---CLICK. CLICK. CLICK. CLICK. AND MAYBE BURNED/ WORN/ DIRTY CONTACTS IN THE RELAY FINALLY "CONNECT" (SORTA THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE CLUTCH SWITCH MIGHT HAVE!). THE RELAY HAS PROBABLY BEEN IN THERE 19 YEARS TOO!

I CAN PROBABLY GET YOU A WONDERFUL WIRING DIAGRAM OF THE SYSTEM, FROM "MITCHELL I", THIS MIGHT EVEN SHOW THE LOCATIONS OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THAT ARE RELATED TO THE CLUTCH SWITCH

IF YOU ARE GOOD AT TESTING AND HAVE A VOLTMETER, TEST LIGHT, OR BOTH. AND SORTA KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND AUTO ELECTRICS. THIS MIGHT PIN DOWN WHICH IS BAD. OR OTHER STUFF THAT COULD BE

IF THE SITE I LINKED YOU TO IS A LOCAL STORE.I CAN SHOW YOU HOW TO SAVE QUITE A BIT, ON THIS AND OTHER STUFF YOU MAY WANT TO PURCHASE THERE. RIGHT NOW, THE BEST DEAL I HAVE FOUND FOR THEM WILL EXPIRE IN A WEEK OR LESS

LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT THE WIRE DIAGRAM----AND THE "WAY TO SAVE" INFO----WHAT YOUR BATTLE PLAN IS

YOUR TURN
