van will not start,just a loud (1) click,under the hood,tried jumping the solenoid with pliers got nothing but spark,what do you think?? starter is bad?

Sounds like either the starter is bad or the engine is locked up. try turning the engine by hand with a socket on the crankshaft bolt first. If the engine is free, it's probably a bad starter.
