Aerostar shift selector problem

My ford Aerostar is starting to not go into park when I'll put it in park. (I will have to get out and push the van into gear) the gear shift also bobbly. I looked up and under kneestopper looked at the very thin red cord and it had slack I tried adjusting the knob but it just moved the red selector thing in the letters for gear ex. P|RND21

have the cable checked for stretching and possible adjustment

Ditto on cable adjustment. I had to adjust mine yesterday to correct slop in the shift quadrant.
