I don't have reverse gear, the shifter lever arm is broken

I have a 94 ford aerostar and i am having trouble with the shifting lever arm. all i have is neutral and drive. i don't think its in the tranny, because you can manually shift everything from underneath with that arm that goes into the tranny. a friend sa the shifter arm is loose as hell, it just slides up and down, only barely clicks into drive

Check the linkage to the transmission to make sure nothing is worn or disconnected.
