Let me rephrase that and you tell me if this sounds right. Everything else works like the radio, head lights, wipers and dash lights, so the battery is okay, but when you turn the ignition switch to "crank", you hear a single, rather loud clunk from under the good but the starter does not crank the engine. If you release the ignition switch, then try it again, after six or more times the starter will work properly and the engine starts. Does that sound right?

If that is right, the starter solenoid has worn contacts. Most people just replace the entire starter but there are repair kits for these little silver Nippendenso starters. Many farm and home stores have the kits for about fifteen dollars.

There are other causes for a failure to crank, but you would have to provide detailed observations and symptom descriptions.
