My transmission will not shift out of second gear, and I cannot drive faster then 35 mph. I am a single ****** and cannot afford mch to fix it.A friend who used to work for chrysler had me turn the car ignition on and off 12 times and then start it. He says this will bybass the limp mode. It did not work. Any suggestions?

Never heard of that 12 times ignition switch thing. The Transmission Computer went to limp mode because it detected a problem. There's no way to bypass a problem. It has to be fixed.

In general, if it goes to limp mode as soon as you shift into drive, it's likely sensor-related or there's some other electrical problem. If it bangs back down to second gear right after or during an up-shift, it's more likely to be slippage due to worn clutch plates.

To determine the problem, start by finding a mechanic with a scanner that can access the Transmission Computer to read the stored diagnostic fault codes. Those will get you to the circuit or system that needs to be diagnosed. The Chrysler scanner will also display the "clutch volume index", (CVI). Those are four numbers corresponding to the volume of fluid it takes to apply each clutch pack. An experienced mechanic can tell how much wear has taken place by those numbers.
