I'm using a '70s Chrysler voltage regulator on my skid steer. It will run your alternator too, but I've never seen a kit for this modification. Have you had the system diagnosed? The regulator is built into the Engine Computer and failures are extremely uncommon. Three quick voltage readings will tell you what's wrong with the regulator circuit.
The regulator gets its 12 volts through the automatic shutdown (ASD) relay which turns on when the engine is rotating, (cranking or running). If you're going to pursue this modification, the injectors, ignition coil pack, and alternator field all get their 12 volts from the same source. Be aware though the Engine Computer is going to detect the open circuit to its internal regulator, set a diagnostic fault code, and turn on the Check Engine light. At that point you'll never know when a different problem is detected since the light will already be on. That can turn a minor problem into an expensive one real fast.
