I bought a 1994 Astro Cargo Van from an auction and the Automatic transmission only has 1st & 2nd gear when I put it in Drive or overdrive there is nothing wont shift into drive. Can I replace the transmission or is it best to rebuild the old on or maybe someone knows a solution to why it has no drive & if replacing the transmission is it a job for an average joe to do

Hello,

It is possible that it is just a Shift Solenoid problem. Is the Engine Light On?

No. The engine light is not on. I will look up shift solenoid in my repair manual. The van used to belong to a high school that's why it only has 119.000 miles on it

OK, sometimes depending on Month of Manufacture a shift solenoid will turn the engine light on. I you decide to replace the solenoid I would replace all since I don't believe they cost that much.
