1994 Buick Century. Mileage: 130,000. We've had a problem recently with the engine racing. As we go along, the speed picks up gradually. If you take your foot off the accelerator, it's like "cruise control." It's even worse if you put the car in neutral or park. Our mechanic replaced the computer with a rebuilt one and it didn't help. He has no clue! Please help.

Check to see that throttle linkage is not binding or “hanging up.” Check to see that the floor mat is clear of gas pedal. Scan computer for fault codes.

Had the same problem with my '94. I replaced the throttle position sensor and that fixed the problem.
