6 cyl 130K miles. Check Engine light is on...dealer said that is because it needs a tune-up. Can that be the case?

It needs to have a reasonable assessment of the issue to continue. A tune up is a poor way of saying what it needs. It might have a PCV plate issue or the Oxygen sensors are getting slow in their response time or several other reasons that a "tune up" might represent, or not. Find out why the light is on and have a comprehensive diagnosis performed to see what the car will need.
