1993 Subaru Legacy Car Wont Move Will Into Gear Release Clutch Hear Clanking

Car wont move. It will go into gear. But when I release the clutch I can hear a clanking noise coming from around tje trans area. Not sure if trans or clutch please help.

I dont knoe to what wss hapening previously as just bought car

have the axles checked first before going to the clutch
