If you have to hold the gas pedal to the floor to start it sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor. Pretty common on those cars also inspect the inside of the coolant temp sensor connector if the terminals are blue or green instead of silver then you will have to replace the connector as well. Thats the most common reason for that symptom it would be the bottom sensor with two wires going to it. That year has two sensors the top one is for the gauge. To test it you would use a multi meter or a temp gun and scan tool that reads live engine data to compare the computer reading to actual coolant temp. If it were my car I would just replace the sensor and inspect the connector. Off the top of my head dont remember what code 19 is but will look it up.
