heard a pop at a 100ks on highway then wheels started to lock up when I pulled over wont move in 2 wheel but drives in 4 wheel drive

You may have a problem in the transfer box, drain oil and check for metal fragments, start here.

Found metal shavings not alot but there there. Does this mean I need to recon the transfer case and the gearbox or just the transfer case

pull the rear tail shaft off and select 2wd start the engine and select 1st gear, have someone look under the car and see if the transfer flange is turning, if not pull the transfer and check it out for damage.
