Height-sensing proportioning valve. It controls brake fluid pressure to the rear wheels to prevent easy rear-wheel lockup. Trucks and minivans use these variable valves because there can be such a huge difference in front-to-rear weight distribution from various loading conditions that one size would not fit all like they do in cars.
