1993 Mercedes Benz 400sel Car Will Over 20mph Unless Floor Once Gets 40mph

My car will not go over 20mph unless I floor it and once it gets over 40mph it drives normal but now it is running real bad and want pick up speed at all what could it be and I did change the spark plugs but not the wires

Something is not breathing right,from plugged air filter or pluggeg exhaust and this includes the catalytic,Here is what gets me when you get to 40MPH then it drives normal, you are describing a tranmission problem, check the transmission fluid condition if it is brownish or even blackish you truly have a transmission problem,
