Can this car be retrofitted with a second airbag by taking up the glove compartment spaces. If so, who might be likely to do the job?

Anything is possible, but this would require more than the purchase of an air bag. Wiring, sensors, different computer... would all be needed. You would end up with thousands in bills and a system that would be questionable at best.

Not recommended.

Thank you, I was afraid that might be the answer! I was thinking about letting my teen age granddaughter use it, but probably will opt for another car for her. Again thanks.

I like how you think. lol I have two teenage sons. One is driving and like you, I want him to be safe. I would get something bigger for a beginner. Now the Miata would be perfect for someone my age. lol
