What would cause my gear shifter to stick when shifting from reverse to park?

Gear shifter sticking.

it may be the shift interlock problem or the cable may be starting to go bad or needs lube.

How do i find out and fix the problem?

You would need to visually check the cable for signs of weakness. This has to be done from both under vehicle and also under the console.
