dash lights and tail lights are out

headlights will come on but my dash lights and tail lights wont. How do I go about checking the switch?

No I have not. It stopped working on the way home one night.

Check all the fuses with a test light first.

problem started when the cig lighter shorted out took out tail lights dash lights fixed problems then went out all the same things so this time I'm thinking relays maybe the tail light relay lamp failure relay in trunk of car. Was wondering cai I remove it without any ill effects?
