93 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder left side spark plugs firing intermittently

I started by changing the spark plugs and noticed the plugs on the left side were very wet with fuel. After changing the plugs it was still missing, then ran fine, then rough again and so on. I called the parts store thinking I need to replace the ignition module, which they told me is 160.00. Do I need to replace the ignition module or the coil?

With a four cylinder, aren't all the plugs on the same side of engine? You have a distributor or coil pack?

Hey, Jacobandnickolas, not trying to butt in. The poster threw me, when he said plugs on one side were wet? It is a straight four?

This is a new one on me. When My girlfriend came back from the parts store with 8 spark plugs and eight wires, I sent her back to the parts store to tell them they made a mistake. She returned saying no this is correct, so I took a look for myself and sure enough, there are eight plugs, four on each side.

Not a problem. I assumed the customer was meaning left to right. As far as the plugs, there are two per cylender. So 8 is correct.

That is correct. It's a 4 cylender, but uses 8 spark plugs, 2 per cylender. If I recall, it was an emissions issue.

Please bear with us. They are working the bugs out of the new web page and we are getting messages mixed up. I'm sorry for that. Before I would spend the money on a new ignition module, I would recommend having it checked. Also, the crank sensor can cause the same type of problem. As far as the ignition coil, are you getting a good hot blue snapping spark to the plugs? Also, has the check engine light come on?

Here are the codes, but I need to find out what they mean-

223- Distributorless ignition system (dis) problem- loss of dual plug inhibit (dpi) control

224- Distributorless ignition system (dis) problem- primary circuit failure in coil #1, 2, 3 or 4

I have another tech looking at this too. I believe it has an issue with a lack of power to the coils. Lets see what he says.

You need to be patient here we have others in front you-We'll get to you-Test the coil/s if okay inspect and test the crankshaft positioning sensor-this one tells the computer which cylinders to fire
