Whining Noice

1993 Chevy S10 pickup. Whining sound coming from the engine while in Park. When you put it in drive and press the accelerator the whining reduces but is there when you let off the accelerator.

this may be an alternator bearing making noise. disconnect the belt and start the ruck if it quits then its' eitehr an alternator or one of the pulleys you'll have to feel if it has a rough spot in the bearing.

If that doesn't seem to be it in which it probably isn't (I know from experiance) and the sound is close to the firewall then it will be your rotor inside the distributor cap. For some reason mositure is bad about collecting inside the cap, but after some time. Take the cap off and look at the contact points and see if there is a little rust build up, then pull the rotor and examine it to see if there is rust build up, you can, carefully clean not scratching the points, but change the rotor...hope this helps...garage gal
