1993 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 liter engine. Timing chain cover is proving very difficult to pry off. Any suggestions on how to pry it off safely without marring the machination where it's sealed?

Make sure you have all the bolts out first. Someone may have glued it on there so it may take some force to get it off. The instructions say that the oil pan has to be removed first. Try to slip a scraper or putty knife behind it a little at a time to work it loose. If you bend the cover, you'll just have to replace it.
