1993 Chevrolet Caprice car stalls after starting

I have a '93 chevy caprice and recently when I start it, it starts surging within seconds, and then I have to restart it again. What is causing this?

If it's only surging at idle and it's good off idle, check to see if the EGR valve is stuck open.

Also check for any stored trouble codes.
