On the highway driving all of a sudden the car shut down?

While I was on the highway driving all of a sudden the car shut down. Nothing was working. Complete shut down. What could be causing this to happen?

Car just shut down on the freeway. A complete shutdown. Disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and it started up. What causing this?

If everything is shutting off electrically I would check the ignition switch, have the battery tested make sure the battery cables are clean and tight and have the alternator tested. Let me know what you find.
