My 1993 Buick Century is making a rattling sound near my water pump. It has been sligtly overheating lately but nothing major. I assume it is the water pump bearings because it has a slight leak that I have not attended to yet.

It sounds like your grandma screaming at you, and a metal on metal scraping sound. Oh wait, the grandma is just screaming behind you, and the water pump is a shrill grinding sound. Also, if your not experiencing water pump issues, it can also be the power steering pump.

Take off the belt, and see what pulleys have excessive play, or experience a sort of crunching sound when you turn them.
