I am having a really bad problem removing the alternator out of the 92 Plymouth grand voyager se without tearing down the left half of my engine to remove the alternator mounting plate and I cant figure it out and I'm a good mechanic so it really is that bad.

It's easier to drop it down the bottom behind the cross member.

The most common failure is worn brushes and those can be replaced rather easily without taking the alternator off the engine. I did it twice to install "bugs" for my students to diagnose. Just remove the wires, then the nuts for the stamped rear cover. The brush assembly is held on with three small bolts.
