New starter keeps winding for a second after car is started

I just bought a new starter for my car. I turn the key and it starts right up, but keeps spinning for about two seconds after it is started. Is this normal?

No, that isn't normal. Were there any shims when you removed the old starter? If not, you may have gotten a bad starter.

Another detail. I bought the automatic starter and it was the wrong one. When I bought the one that fit on the same way as mine, they told me that was the manual starter. And is 11/1992 considered a 92 still when it comes to parts?

Is 11/92 the mfg date? Are you sure it isn't a 93?

As far as the starter, what do you mean automatic -VS- manual? A starter is a starter. Does the vehicle have an aftermarket starting system?
