1992 Mercury Cougar Transmission

The transmission drives forward with no problems but reverse not working also it doesn't matter what gear I select it goes forward, example I put the gear selector in reverse it goes forward if I put in neutral it goes forward. The neutral safety switch is working correctly because it starts in park and in neutral only. Hopefully this is an easy adjustment fix but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Id say you've got a problem in the valve body making it stuck in drive. Since the neutral safety works we know the selector and linkage are working. Does it try to move in park if you push the gas or is it out of gear then?

Ok that's good. I think you've got problems in the valve body making it go into drive in all other positions. Id call a trans shop and tell them your problem and get their advice
