ac problems with compressor

check all the mounting brackets. might be loose or may have broken belts allowing it to vibrate.

thanks for the advice but the garage has changed the compressor 3 times because of this noise but they are second hand compressors
if they have been in there that many times wouldnt they have seen any
broken belts or loose brackets. Is there anthing else that could do this. thanks zoe

A bad harmonic damper on the crank pulley would be the most likely cause if it is screeching noises.

Check if the crank pulley seems wavy when engine is running. A bad harmonic damper can result in clicking noise as well.

ok will look because i dont think the problem is the compressor having changed it 3 times but the garage here thinks itis.cant have 3 with the same problem so will check out what you say tomorrow.

If 3 different compressors have the same symptoms, it would be hard to swallow. Keep us updated.
