Ran fine until it hit a bump. Bottomed out and the car died immediately. It wouldn't start back up. All that happens when turning the key is clicking. I'm sure that is has got to be something fairly simple since the car was running perfectly prior to hitting the bump and bottoming out. What would be the most logical things to check and what order should I have them checked in? Please start with the most probable cause first. Husband is talking about stripping parts off of it for his (not running) caddy if he can't get the Lincoln running again. (He is no where as "car repair savvy" as he would like to think he is.) Please send me your response as soon as possible. I'm trying to prevent having two cars not running and torn apart instead of just the caddy being down. If I am not able to come up with an answer REALLY quickly, the vehicle that less than three weeks ago was bought for $3,000 won't get $250 from PickNPull because someone with no car sense has been "diagnosing" it. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you!

I would like to be able to make a donation but at this time I am simply not able to. I am very sorry about that. I'm broke and desperate.

If your saying the starter won't even crank, make sure battery has a full charge, check the wiring circuits at the starter. Any testing at the starter, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

the engine isn't froze-up, can you turn the crank by hand?

found out it will click click click when turning key. Spoke to another friend of mine after sending you email , and they told me that fords/lincolns have a sensor that, in the event of an impact, kills the fuel from getting past the tank. This makes sense since the bump was hit pretty hard and the car bottomed out. .He also told me that (similar to an old gas stove) there would be a reset button most likely in the trunk somewhere or inside the passenger usually up under the dash. 'this button has to be pushed to reset the fuel pump to pump fuel to the engine again. Until then, the fuel pump will still click but no fuel passes to the engine. Makes sense considering how the car acted as soon as it hit.

Can you tell me where, exactly, to look for this button on a 92 towncar?

Thank you. And thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
