1992 Ford Ranger Transmission trouble

I can shift into all forward gears but not reverse. I can remove the shifter and line up the gears than test drive the truck. After about an hour I lose the ability to put the truck in reverse again.

either the shifter is worn out or the linkage in trans. Kinda sounds like the shifter is the problem however. check the piece on end of it.
