tachometer to stop working?

What would cause a tachometer to stop working on a 1992 ford mustang with automatic transmission. It is stuck showing 3500 rpm but motor is running properly. The tach guage shows 3500 rpms but the motor is running at normal idle speed

Check your fuses but It could be a bad tach
