I set the timing to 10 degrees btdc and my van has no power and I can't even drive it when I put the advance pin back in it retards it even more instead of advancing it,so I set the timing higher and I am able to drive it but the van runs rough once in a while and the idle will go up and down.

that only leaves the timing chain. do a compression test to see how the motor is doing.
