Hi, my name is pam, My car may start out in low gear, when it's in drive. Sometimes its starts in drive, then goes into fail mode. Sometimes it does not go into fail mode. Sometimes into won't go out of first gear. But if I turn the car off and back on it will go out of fail mode. Can you help?

Pam:

You need to scan the computer to determine what trouble codes are stored. To do this, follow these directions and then let me know what you find.

1) Cycle the key from off to on (not starting the engine) 3 times.

2) The 3rd time, let the key in the run position.

3) The check engine light will begin to flash.

4) You will need to count the flashes. All trouble codes will be a 2 digit number.

5) The light will flash the first digit, pause, then flash the second number, so be prepared to count the flashes.

6) The first code will be a 12 (if I recall correctly) which just indicates you started the process and the last code will be 55 indicating the end.

Do this and let me know what codes you get.
