I have to keep playing with the throttle to start it and keep it running. If I stop rocking the throttle back and forth it dies. IIt also keep backfiring through the throttle body sometimes. I changed the idle air control valve.

Is the check engine light on? If so, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free.
