The car is jumping and bucking when I have to come to a stop if I don't downshift to low.

1992 Chevrolet Cavalier having shifting and idling problem when I pull up to a stop light after it is warmed up. I have to keep one foot on brake and one on gas to idle at a higher level or it dies. This only happens after it has warmed up with 20+ miles or so of travel.

If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Also, check to make sure ther are no vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve.
