Sometimes it rides and sounds rough.

Does the speedometer run off of a fuse or relay, and if so is it connected to the digital mpg, and temperature reading? Then the car stalls and everything works for while then it goes out again?

Scan it for codes. Make sure the connector for the instrument panel is firmly plugged in.

Behind the instrument cluster. You should be able to see and reach it from underneath without removing it. You'll need a flashlight and it probably won't be comfortable getting your head and body into the right position to be able to see.

If you can't see it from underneath, you'll have to remove it. There's normally between 2 and 6 screws that secure it to the dash.
