This is what I have for starter replacement on that car.
If shims are used between starter and engine block, they should be placed in original position during installation. If starter is noisy during cranking, remove double.015 inch shim or add.015 inch shim at outer bolt only. If high pitched whine is observed after engine starts, add double.015 inch shims (to maximum of.045 inch) until noise is corrected.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove nuts securing starter shield and the shield.
3. Disconnect front and rear exhaust pipe if necessary.
4. Remove nuts securing solenoid wires and battery cable, then disconnect wiring, Fig. 1.
5. Remove starter brace, mounting bolts and the starter motor.
6. Reverse procedure to install.
