Hi I am having an accleration problem with my 1992 Cadillac Deville. When I try to get on the interstate and I floor it the rpms raise I can hear the motor reving but I get no accleration. The car does not increase MPH. I can hit the gas going 40 and I have to lift my foot to get it to acclerate a little. Not sure if it is a fuel problem or what. I had the neutral safety switch come on twice awhile back ago and it hasn't been on in awhile. Not sure if this could have any affect. Thanks.

If the RPM's increase but you don't accelerate, it sounds like the transmission is slipping. Have you checked the trans fluid to make sure it is clean and full? Also, has the check engine light come on?

I will check the tranny fluid today. Maybe drain it this weekend no check engine light.

When you check the trans fluid, make sure the vehicle is on a level surface, the engine is running at operating temp, and the car is in park.

Pay attention to the color of the fluid. It should be a bright pink/red color. If it is brown, see if there is a burnt smell to it.

Ok I checked it it was light brown and smelled burnt. I am going to drain it this weekend and see what I can find. What is your suggestion at this point. Thanks.

I have to warn you, if it is brown and smells burnt, there is a good chance that the clutches in the transmission are bad. When you remove the pan to drain the fluid, see if there is clutch material or any metal shavings in it. There should be a magnet in the pan to capture steel.
